DAMASCUS STEEL – A RICH HISTORY
The name comes from the capital city of Syria, where swords from this kind of steel were first made and sold. With a unique marbling pattern that results from the way the blades are forged, they were so sharp that they inspired legends, some of which you may have heard – they could split a falling hair, or even a gun, in half.
While the exact art of making Damascus steel became lost over the centuries, many researchers have examined materials, sword composition, and tools, to try and create the most true-to-life genuine Damascus steel possible. Today the best techniques are taught in Germany and Japan.
